The competition tasks of this skill category are based on the Vocational qualification in
the vehicle sector. The qualification titles of the
basic qualification are autokorinkorjaaja (vehicle body repairer),
automaalari (vehicle painter), automyyjä (car salesperson), ajoneuvoasentaja
(vehicle mechanic), pienkonekorjaaja(small machinery repairer) and varaosamyyjä (part
salesperson).
The professional who have completed the qualification may work according
to the competence area for example in vehicle sales, car repair shops, car or
car parts shops, car painting shops or in industries manufacturing different
vehicle bodies, special vehicles and caravans.

Description of the skill category
A vehicle painter is a professional in vehicle surface treatment. The
work tasks include for example priming of the auto body structure, basic and
repair painting as well as surface treatment, such as fixing and waxing. Technical
skills and artistic creativity are combined in a vehicle painter’s work.
The competition is individual.
Three competitors from the same training centre of an
education institution can enrol in semifinals of this skill category.
Skill requirements
A vehicle painter must master modern work tasks of the profession as a whole. S/he shall be able to plan his/her daily work tasks so that transferring from one work stage to another takes place at suitable time and no unnecessary breaks occur for example as a result of waiting for paint product drying. A vehicle painter must especially observe the work safety, environment protection and customer service as well as work profitability.
